Morocco: Growth in leather exports but finished products plummet
Exports of tanned leather from Morocco in 2013 totalled €47 million in value, up from €42 in 2012, according to the country’s leather association, Fedic.
Italy takes about 60% of the tanned leather, with France buying 28%, Spain 9% and Portugal 6%.
Around €250 million was earned from the export of shoes, up from €236 million in 2012.
However, exports of leathergoods fell €21 million in value to €30.6 million during the year.
The leather industry supports 340 companies and employs 21,000, says Fedic.
