Lectra expands leather cutting offer

16/04/2014
Leather cutting machinery manufacturer Lectra has extended its Versalis range of leather cutters after investing €15 million in the machine over six years.

“Lectra invests close to 10% of its revenues each year in R&D,” said Céline Choussy Bedouet, a marketing director at Lectra. “Innovation is even more crucial now that leather costs keep increasing every day, partly due to scarcity.”

Versalis now has the capacity to scan leather and nest the pieces on the hide in separate stages. This innovative process enables “multi-hide” nesting that increases material savings by up to 4%, says Lectra. The new technology can cut several half hides simultaneously, boosting productivity, and simulate costs prior to the cutting phase.
