Italian tanning machinery manufacturer Cartigliano has scooped the Best Process Innovation award at the MM&T leather fair, held recently in Hong Kong.

“This is the first time, in 30 years at the APLF fair, that they have awarded this prize to a manufacturing company,” said Cartigliano president Toni Polato. “We are very proud of it.”

Its latest vacuum dryer reduces energy consumption while offering thermo-fixation for an increase in area while maintaining the natural touch of leather, said show organisers.

Italy’s RMM Leather Industries won the Best Craftsmanship on Leather award for its hair-on leather featuring hand-weaving and hand-painting.

India’s Aqsa International took the prize for Best New Technology for its bonding of the grain and the flesh side of lambskins with lycra.

Tannerie Arnal from France took the prize for Best Luxury Leather while Turkish tanner Centinkaya Deri was deemed to have the Best Fashion Leather Collection for its lambskins.

Finally, Sakamoto from Japan won the Best New Leather prize for its bull leather with lacquered finish that takes inspiration from traditional samurai armour.
