Japanese carmaker Nissan has appointed a former BMW executive to lead its luxury brand’s operations in China.

Daniel Kirchert will take over as Infiniti's managing director on May 1. He succeeds Allen Lu, who will move to a new post overseeing Asia and Oceania.

Nissan is aiming for 10% of China's luxury vehicle market by 2016. It plans to increase the number of Infiniti dealerships from 60 to 80 by 2014 and to start producing its Q50 sedan and QX50 SUV models in China in 2014.
