Italy’s main leather industry body UNIC has presented its training initiatives and future strategies to Italy’s Ministry of Education and Merit, aimed at strengthening links between schools and the tanning sector.

On 22 July, UNIC director general Fulvia Bacchi discussed the programmes with education minister Giuseppe Valditara, highlighting initiatives designed to bring young people closer to the industry and support companies’ future skills needs.

UNIC presented projects ranging from collaborations with universities, academies and fashion institutes to educational activities for younger students, including Le Belle Lettere della Pelle and Amici per la Pelle.

The meeting also covered higher technical education and teacher orientation activities, with UNIC highlighting the importance of involving students and families in career guidance.
