Para extends cattle tracking deadline to 2033

04/12/2025

An initiative to track cattle in the Brazilian state of Para has been delated after ranchers expressed concerns about the challenges of implementing the new system.

The original deadline for farmers to identify and register cattle has been moved from January 1, 2027 to January 1, 2033.

The Pará Cattle Integrity and Development Programme was launched at the COP28 climate summit in 2023.

Para has a cattle herd of around 26 million head, making the implementation a significant logistical challenge, reported Reuters.
