A wildfire has burned more than 1 million acres of grasslands in Texas, making it the largest in the state’s history.

The blaze, called the Smokehouse Creek Fire, had doubled in size since Wednesday, reported newswire Reuters.

The fires could have killed tens of thousands of livestock, according to Texan agriculture commissioner Sid Miller. “The number is going to be very large," he said.

One person is known to have died. At the time of going to press, firefighters said the fire was 3% under control.
