Levi’s pushes for LWG suppliers
Denim brand Levi’s has outlined its strategy for leather in its latest sustainability report, with a push towards sourcing from Leather Working Group (LWG)-rated tanneries.

In 2021, 35% of suppliers were rated by LWG, rising to 60% in 2022.

It said: “While we only use a small amount of leather, we do understand the impact of leather on biodiversity and thus work to source leather from Leather Working Group-rated suppliers.

“We are dedicated to improving the methodology used to calculate the amount of LWG-rated leather in our products by partnering with LWG and our suppliers.”

It also aims to reach zero deforestation across high-risk materials by the end of fiscal year 2025; defining high-risk materials as natural rubber, bovine leather and manmade cellulosic fibres, using EU Deforestation Regulation data.

CEO Chip Burgh said of the report: “We know we have a way to go, but I’m confident that we’re moving in the right direction. And we will keep pursuing impactful innovation, upholding our global standards of conduct, working with established partners and seeking out new collaborations to help us meet our sustainability ambitions.”
