Ms Ellison included in her list a goatskin coat by Chloé, part of a Claude Chabrol-inspired collection compiled by Natacha Ramsay Levi for the brand. Jo Ellison said the coat was an example of “excellent outerwear” in the collection, and she said the hair-on goatskin was “as rich and luxurious as the finest clotted cream”.
She also described as “deliciously good” a long leather shirt-dress in caramel colours that Jonathan Anderson included in his collection for Loewe.
Finally, she highlighted the “sleazy leathers” that have helped designer Clare Waight Keller make a successful start for Givenchy. Jo Ellison said the leathers the new Givenchy artistic director picked helped her achieve a post-Wall Berlin look, with East-versus-West clashes.
For its part, Givenchy said the inaugural collections of Ms Waight Keller, who joined the brand in May 2017, have been a success. During the recent Paris and Milan fashion weeks, and in anticipation of the designer’s first ever Givenchy collection, spring-summer 2018, reaching its stores, it set up themed displays at its flagship stores in both cities to add to the anticipation.
