JBS founder celebrates 70th anniversary
Brazil-based meat and tannery group JBS kicked off the company's 70th anniversary celebrations with a conversation broadcast live to all JBS units around the world.

Company leaders José Batista Sobrinho, Wesley Batista and Joesley Batista recalled the company's growth trajectory, from a small butcher shop in Goiás to one of the largest food companies of the world.

Around 700 employees attended the event in person, at the headquarters in São Paulo.

José Batista Sobrinho, age 87, better known as Zé Mineiro, spoke of the company in Anápolis in 1953. “We woke up at 2 am every day, but today we see that the effort was worth it,” he said.

“Throughout my life, I've learned that, for us to move forward, we need to be different. That's why I've always dedicated myself to delivering the best results for my clients, and that's the legacy I want to leave for our employees and colleagues.”

After the global expansion, accelerated after the IPO (initial offering of shares on the São Paulo Stock Exchange in 2007), the diversification of proteins and geographies allowed JBS to have a broad portfolio of brands such as Friboi, Seara , Swift, Pilgrim's, Moy Park and Primo.

Founded in 1953 by Zé Mineiro, JBS is today one of the largest employers in Brazil, with 143,000 employees, and has more than 260,000 employees on all continents.

It is also one of the largest tannery groups in the world.

“I am extremely grateful for all the colleagues and collaborators who embarked on this dream with me and dedicate themselves daily to raise our level of delivery to our customers. Today, at almost 90 years of age, I feel fulfilled for having built good connections and a company capable of helping so many families,” said Zé Mineiro.
