Japanese fashion fund adds to leathergoods stable
A fund jointly managed by Japanese fashion group World and the Development Bank of Japan, the W&D Design Limited Partnership (W&D Design Fund), has added to its leathergoods portfolio by bringing local brand Toff and Loadstone into its orbit.

This latest addition will see the company join fellow leathergoods brands Hirofu and Hiroko Hayashi, also controlled by the fund. All three source their leather from Italy and Japan, local media said, and together will bring in sales of more than ¥3 billion ($23.2 million) combined.

Procurement and production for each brand will now be centralised, to help mitigate the impact of rising raw material costs. World will also supply logistical support. Its group executive officer, Yoshiko Sasaki, will serve as president of all three brands.

Toff and Loadstone primarily operates an e-commerce and wholesale distribution model, whereas Hirofu and Hiroko Hayashi articles are sold mainly in department stores. Moving forward, Hirofu’s e-commerce arm will be strengthened, with plans to further expand into own-brand physical retail stores reportedly in the pipeline for both Hiroko Hayashi and Toff and Loadstone.
