Millennials snap up crocodile Birkins at Christie’s
The first auction since 2017 of single-owner handbags and accessories at Christie’s auction house in Paris doubled its presale estimate, realising a total of £1.9 million.

The auction welcomed over 400 bidders from 48 countries for the 69 lots. 

Thirty of registrants were new to Christie’s and 46% of the buyers were millennials. 

Rachel Koffsky, international specialist at Christie’s EMEA, said: “The selection represents the most rare, desirable and sought-after pieces on the market. The results reflect the exquisite taste of this important private collector.”

The top lot of the sale was a Bleu Marine Porosus Crocodile Birkin 30 with 18K white gold and diamond hardware (pictured), which sold for €176,400. 

The Matte White Himalaya Nitolicus Crocodile Birkin 30 sold for €151,200, far above its presale estimate of €80,000. 

Two rare Bleu Marine and Ebony Gold Faubourg Sellier Birkin 20, achieved €138,600 and €119,700 respectively.

Further highlights included a limited edition Jaune de Naples Swift Leather and Osier Mini Picnic Kelly 20, which sold for €75,600, and a rare Fauve Barénia Leather & Bog Oak Kellywood 22, which achieved €138,600.
