She will replace current vice-chancellor and chief executive, Professor Nick Petford, who will step down this summer after 12 years at the helm.
Specialising in criminal history, Professor Kilday is an alumna of the universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde and Oxford Brookes, where she has been a member of the university’s senior leadership team since 2012, after first joining as a lecturer in 2000.
Commenting on the appointment, chair of the board of governors at the University of Northampton, Mark Mulcahey, said: “Through a rigorous and inclusive process, we have chosen a new vice-chancellor that embodies our vision and sense of purpose.
“In addition to being a highly accomplished educator and researcher, Professor Kilday has improved the university experience for staff and students in her current post [at Oxford Brookes] and driven initiatives around equality, diversity and inclusion. Her dedication to the ideals of using higher education as a catalyst for positive social impact mirrors our own Changemaker ethos.”
Mr Mulcahey concluded by saying that the university looked forward to welcoming its newest addition, a sentiment echoed by Professor Kilday herself, who said that she was “hugely honoured and incredibly happy” to be joining its senior leadership team.
