New manager for University of Northampton tannery
Experienced leather industry professional David Miller has been appointed as the new manager of the tannery at the University of Northampton’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT).
Mr Miller will run the tannery that ICLT has on site at the university, taking over from David Sherwood. He arrives after 18 years as production manager at Blenkinsop Leathers near Rushden.
David Miller’s career in leather manufacturing began in 1980 when he joined TH Geary in Kettering as a teenager. He later worked at Odell Wilson & Tilt (Pittard Group) in Northampton and at Clifford Collins in Rushden.
His work at these different companies has given him experience of making a wide variety of articles, from heavy vegetable-tanned leathers to leather from small skins. He will, therefore, have an extensive range of knowledge and skills to pass on to ICLT students.
He became a member of the UK’s Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC) in 1992 and was appointed as its treasurer in 2017.
