Spanish tanneries back Igualada leather course

Spain’s Universitari d'Igualada is offering an online leather course with internships at local tanneries as part of the European Skills4Smart Textiles, Clothing, Leather and Footwear  (TCLF) Industries 2030 project, led by textiles association Euratex.

Skills4Smart TCLF is a four-year project that aims, with funding from Europe’s Erasmus+ programme, to “upskill and reskill” people working in the TCLF sectors in many European countries.

The Tècnic d'Adoberia course will be made up of 25 hours of online classes and 25 face-to-face hours. Students will learn about hide processing and manufacturing, chemistry, finishing and sustainability.

The participants will be able to start the course at any time of the year and benefit from internships at local companies: Morera Pell, Curtidos Badia Sau, Proyecto Fontanellas y Martí, Curtidos Riba Guixà, Procés de Pèl i Pell, Intraval and Igualadina for Purification and Recovery.

A director at the A3 Leather Innovation Centre d'Igualada, Anna Bacardit, told local press the new course "is focused on promoting two competencies: digitisation and sustainability”.
