A shoe manufacturing facility with a capacity for two million pairs of shoes per year has been formally commissioned by the Senate President in Nigeria, Dr Ahmad Lawan.

At a ceremony at Enyimba Automated Shoe Company (ENASCO)'s premises in Obingwa state, he said it has shown that nothing is impossible despite the lean resources available to the state.

Local press reported the venture will be capable of making 5,000 shoes a day, and will create employment opportunities for young people. Machinery will arrive from Turkey in the next six months.

State governor Okezie Ikpeazu said about one million young people are engaged in the leather and garment sector in the state.

The chairman of ENASCO said the goal is to be one of the most recognised leather companies in Africa in the next five years.

The factory will make work boots, school shoes, military desert boots, police shoes and formal men's shoes.
