Nigeria’s GB Tannery, a supplier to luxury group Kering and fashion group Inditex, is planning to expand its capacity to increase exports and employ more local people.

Its CEO, Mustapha Tijjani Sule Garo, told US news channel CNN it was also investing in digitisation.

He said: “Digitalisation has helped us in the way that we can now communicate faster with our buyers and our suppliers. We can do a lot of communication on WhatsApp or Zoom and they can send us some samples by email.”

GB is also in talks to begin making leathergoods.

The family run business in Kano has been operating for more than 100 years and has the capacity to process 1.5 million goat and sheep skins per year.
