Hermès opens first-ever Michigan store

Somerset Collection shopping mall in Troy, Michigan, around 30 miles outside of Detroit, is the location of Parisian luxury goods house Hermès’ latest address.

Commenting on this brand first, Hermès USA president and chief executive, Robert B. Chavez, said: “We are excited to be moving into a new state with Hermès, Michigan.

“We are honoured to join the Troy community at the Somerset Collection, bringing Hermès culture and craft to the heartland of American ingenuity and industry.”

Designed under the direction of Parisian architecture agency RDAI, most of the store’s materials and finishes, including American oak floors and a St Clair stone façade, have all been inspired by and sourced from within North America, according to a press release.

Hermès described the store as a harmonious fusion of the “stark romance” of Greater Detroit’s surrounding, “distinctly North American”, natural landscapes and its own Parisian heritage of creation and craftsmanship.

Leathergoods can be found in the centre of the store, which is currently open by appointment only, as well as next to the entrance in the form of a display of the house’s signature leather and enamel bracelets.
