500-plus Galliano-era Dior articles auctioned
More than 500 pieces of archived Christian Dior fashion and leathergoods articles from designer John Galliano’s tenure as creative director are set to go under the hammer at Cornette de Saint Cyr auction house in Paris on June 7.
Around 300 of the items available have reportedly been donated by a Russian collector of Dior haute couture, who has been purchasing Mr Galliano’s designs since his debut for the house during the autumn-winter 1997 couture season.
Over 100 handbags, including Lady Dior and Saddle styles, also feature in the line-up, as does a python trench coat (pictured) from autumn-winter 2006.
Other classic Galliano-designed garments include newsprint pieces from his spring-summer 2006 collection for Dior, plus a cheongsam-inspired dress from autumn-winter 1997.
“The sale is very representative of the evolution of Galliano’s style at the house of Dior,” director of the auction house’s luxury and vintage department, Hubert Felbacq, told reporters.
