Hermès expands Macau footprint with new store
The doors recently opened to Parisian luxury goods house Hermès’ newest Macau store, located on the ground floor of the Galaxy Macau casino resort in the Cotai area of the Chinese special administrative region.
This latest move broadens the brand’s existing retail footprint beyond its current Macau addresses, which already include luxury shopping spaces within the One Central mall, the Wynn and Wynn Palace hotels and the Shoppes at Four Seasons.
The focal point of the new, open-plan Galaxy Macau store is the house’s leather “universe”, where luxury leathergoods for both women and men are encircled by separate spaces given over to collections including Hermès’ silk, beauty and perfume, watches and jewellery, ready-to-wear and home and equestrian offerings.
Significantly, the RDAI-designed, floor-to-ceiling façade is symbolically coloured jade, evoking the auspicious qualities attributed to the jade stone (sometimes known as the “stone of Heaven”) in Chinese culture.
When viewed up close, however, it becomes clear that the façade in reality consists of handmade ceramic tiles assembled in a chevron pattern and glazed in gradient shades from emerald to luminescent white, a nod to the historical Portuguese influence on Macau.
