Former LV designer offers fresh take on leathergoods classics

The design director of French leathergoods brand Moynat has launched his first collection, after joining the LVMH-owned brand last summer.
Nicholas Knightly, who had been head of leathergoods design at Louis Vuitton since 2004, worked with the brand’s artisans to create “contemporary interpretations” of the signature designs.
LVMH describes Pauline Moynat, who founded the brand in 1849, as the first and only woman to bring feminine flair to luxury trunk-making.
In 1869 she opened a boutique in Paris where “demanding customers” inspired creations that were crafted and personalised by hand with "exquisite refinement".
Among new designs is Le Flori bag (pictured), with a removable crossbody strap, and Le Limousine, designed with a convex bottom and which can be produced to colour-match a car.
