Pompeii’s tannery restoration nears completion

The ruins of the largest tannery in the ancient city of Pompeii will soon be open to the public following restoration works funded by UNIC, Italy’s union of tanneries, and Archaeological Park of Pompeii.

The two have been working together since 2008 when restoration of the tannery complex began.

In 2018, UNIC won recognition for its support from a corporate art awards programme in Italy, ‘Mecenati (Art Patrons) of the XXI Century.

Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in near the coast of the Bay of Naples. It was buried under ash and pumice after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
