LHCA launches website at first annual meeting
Launching it at the organisation’s first annual meeting, following the merger of the former US Hide, Skin and Leather Association and Leather Industries of America last year, LHCA president Stephen Sothmann said: “The website allows the US industry to convey timely, pertinent information and to speak with one, unified voice.”
The website will feature industry news, guidelines and standards and will soon include a searchable member directory to help connect buyers and sellers.
At the meeting, attendees discussed the global leather industry’s recent request that the Sustainable Apparel Coalition suspend the score it applies to leather in its Higg Materials Sustainability Index.
“This has certainly been a challenging year, not only because of the difficulties that emerged from COVID-19, but also because the industry continues to contend with the ramifications of slumping global demand for leather, driven largely by misinformation about its environmental impact,” Mr Sothmann said.
“The meeting provided a critical forum to underscore the progress the industry has made despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and to reaffirm our commitment to advancing the incontrovertible truth about leather: it is beautiful, versatile, natural, and sustainable.”
