Shortlist announced in Real Leather-Stay Different competition
Leather & Hide Council of America (LHCA) has announced the first winners in its student design competition, Real Leather-Stay Different.
Design students in China, Taiwan, Italy and the UK are taking part in this competition, using leather made from US hides for their entries. LHCA is working with partner organisations in each place: the China Leather Industry Association, the Taiwan Leather Industry Association, UNIC and Leather UK.
The competition in Taiwan has now reached the stage of announcing a shortlist. In total, 300 students from 15 different design schools there took part. Of these, 23 design ideas have made it onto the shortlist.
Among these entries are seven garment designs, seven for footwear, six for accessories and three for leather bags. Judges will announce a winner in each of these categories on September 8.
LHCA president, Stephen Sothmann, said: “It is inspiring to see the next generation of talented designers celebrate the beauty, versatility, and quality of US leather in their designs. Through this unique competition, design students around the world are learning first-hand that using sustainable, natural US leather makes them good stewards of the environment and yields enviable products that consumers love.”
