Students suggest resource for launching leather start-ups

Among the topics discussed at this year’s LERIG 2020 in Chennai, India, was a suggested programme for helping leather technology students get start-ups off the ground.

Students from Anna University’s department of leather technology raised the idea for an initiative called Flyers, which stands for “Front line leaders and young entrepreneurs’ resource for start-ups in leather”.

As reported in local media, the idea was shared by Joe Arun J., who spearheads this initiative, speaking at the 53rd Leather Research Industry get-together. Flyers, he said, would work with students to seed, nurture and foster the start-up culture. The long-term vision is to create links among the start-up promotional centres throughout the region.

LERIG 2020 was organised by CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) - Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), in association with stakeholders of the Indian leather industry.
