Italy: Outdoor sector footwear bucks trend

16/01/2020
Italians bought 3.4% more outdoor sector shows in 2019 compared with 2018, bucking the trend for declining footwear sales overall, according to Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat).

This equated to €750 million in value and 15.4 million pairs sold.

As a result, Milan-based footwear show Micam is featuring an extended Player’s District – an area dedicated to outdoorwear shoes and sports shoes – at February’s edition.

“Along with sneakers, the sports sector is the only one to show an increase in sales on the domestic market, which has been undergoing a long period of stagnation,” said shoe manufacturers association Assocalzaturifici.
