Local Loewe executive exit raises Spanish eyebrows

06/11/2019
Industry observers in Spain have taken note of a development in the senior management team at Madrid-based leathergoods brand Loewe. Head of finance, Eloy Rodrigo, has left the company for the  second time, leaving no Spanish executives in the leadership team.

As the name suggests, Loewe’s roots are German, but the brand was founded in Madrid in 1848 and still has its head office there, with its main manufacturing and training facility in Getafe, just to the south of the Spanish capital.

Luxury group LVMH acquired Loewe in 1987 and, since then, the brand has become more and more international, entirely intentionally. Chief executive, Pascale Lepoivre, joined in 2016 from within Paris-based LVMH; she replaced Lisa Montague, who had herself arrived at Loewe in 2009 from Mulberry in her native UK. The brand’s creative director is Irish designer, Jonathan Anderson.

Eloy Rodrigo first worked for Loewe between 2008 and 2012, when LVMH moved him to another luxury brand, Givenchy. He returned to Loewe in 2016, shortly after Ms Lepoivre’s appointment. As well as finance, he had been running other aspects of the brand’s business, including IT and logistics.

Recent figures show that Loewe achieved sales revenues of €38.4 million in the first nine months of 2019, an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year. Its leathergoods division contributed almost €16 million and posted growth of 22% year on year.
