The organisers of the first Sustainable Leather Forum, which will take place on September 16 in Paris, have offered more details about the topics that will be addressed during the event. They have also announced a number of high-profile speakers.

The programme will be split into four sessions, with each one dedicated to a different topic, all of which more broadly relate to corporate social responsibility. Subjects to be covered include how the fashion industry can improve its image in the eyes of consumers, the leather production process, footwear sourcing and manufacturing, and sustainable leathergoods production.

The current list of speakers is also very interesting, with a number of luxury goods brands represented. Confirmed participants include Marie-Claire Daveu, director of sustainable development for Kering; Emmanuel Pommier, managing director of Hermès’ leathergoods and saddlery business; and Christelle Capdupuy, global sustainable development director of Louis Vuitton.

Another intriguing name on the list is Professor Grahame Webb, a respected expert in reptile conservation. He is the chairman of the Crocodile Specialist Group (CSG), which plays a key role in crocodile conservation efforts.

Chairman of the Leather Naturally campaign, Smit & zoon’s Egbert Dikkers, and Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, the general secretary of the leather industry’s representative body in the European Union, COTANCE, had already been confirmed as speakers at the event.
