Vietnam exports a billion pairs of shoes per year

The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) has confirmed the country exported more than 1 billion pairs of shoes last year.

Diep Thanh Kiet, vice-chairman of Lefaso, said manufacturers are being awarded contracts that would previously have gone to China, because China is focusing on high tech industries, and labour costs there are rising.

Speaking at the Vietnam Footwear Summit in Ho Chi Minh City, he added that exports from the sector are expected to rise 10% this year, from nearly $20 billion in 2018.
