Lefaso backs calls for new leather clusters in Vietnam
19/06/2018
Lefaso, the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association, has said leather and footwear exports account for nearly 10% of Vietnam’s total export revenues. At the same time, 50% of domestic demand for leather and shoes is met by Vietnam-based manufacturers and the sector employs more than 1 million people.
However, these manufacturer are still having to import almost 60% of raw materials, the association has pointed out. It backs calls from some footwear manufacturers for the development of proper clusters, with new tanneries and shoe factories sharing the same site, with advanced wastewater treatment built into the infrastructure.
