Diverse programme at annual Lanxess seminar

It was attended by more than 60 representatives from brands, manufacturers and certification institutes.
The programme was opened by Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer, Lanxess’s vice-president for leather industry relations, who welcomed those in attendance and discussed the growing importance of sustainability.
He was followed onto the stage by colleague Dr Martin Kleban, the company’s director of health, safety, environment and quality, who gave an update on the regulatory requirements for the production of leather.
There were a number of other speakers who gave talks on a variety of topics. They included:
• Peter Erren, from Dutch company Erren Recondition, who discussed reconditioning of leather to comply with Chrome VI restrictions;
• Karl Flowers, from industry consultancy company Authenticae, who talked about the biodegradability of leather;
• Dr Volker Rabe, head of technical product management for tanning technology at Lanxess, who touched on subjects including the odour of leather and VOC emissions.
