Luxury leathergoods group Hermès has reported revenue of more than €5.5 billion in 2017. At constant exchange rates, this represents an increase of 9% compared to the previous year.

There was especially strong performance from the group’s leathergoods and saddlery division, which saw sales grow 10% year on year. The company said this was in line with its annual growth target in production capacities, which is designed to meet strong demand for its handbags.

To this end, it is close to completing a new luxury leathergoods manufacturing facility at l’Allan in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France. Others at Guyenne, near Bordeaux, and Montereau-Fault-Yonne, just south of Paris, will be in production by 2020.

Hermès said it saw growth in all geographical areas, pointing to improvements it has made to its distribution network, and to the renovation and extension work being carried out on stores around the world. Sales in Asia (excluding Japan) increased 11%, sales in the Americas were 8% higher, and there was growth of 8% in European sales.
