Leathergoods manufacturing expansion continues to pay off for Hermès

08/11/2017
Luxury leathergoods group Hermès has reported revenues of just over €4 billion for the first nine months of 2017, an increase of 9.5% compared to the same period in 2016.

Its leathergoods and saddlery division contributed just over €2 billion towards the total, registering growth of 10.5% year on year.

In comments it made on announcing the figures, Hermès said growth in its leathergoods business was in line with targets and highlighted the particular success of its Constance, Halzan, Lindy and Verrou bags, alongside perennial performers the Birkin and Kelly models.

It also said its leathergoods business had benefitted from increased production, thanks to the new manufacturing sites it has inaugurated in different parts of France in recent years.

Hermès also pointed out that its investment in new luxury leathergoods manufacturing facilities will continue with new production units at l’Allan in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France likely to be inaugurated before the end of 2017 and others at  Guyenne, near Bordeaux, and Montereau-Fault-Yonne, just south of Paris, will be in production by 2020.
