Stahl explained that the aim of the seminars was to “familiarise local professionals with Stahl’s sustainability philosophy for the industry and related sustainable solutions.” Around 600 professionals attended across the three events.
“We see it as our responsibility to share our in-house knowledge with others around the world, as we can only achieve a more sustainable and transparent leather supply chain by working together,” said Mr Costello.
The seminars began with an explanation of how Stahl has successfully integrated sustainability into its overall corporate strategy. They also discussed chemical compliance, with an emphasis on the reasons behind the recent launches of Manufacturing Restricted Substances Lists (MRSLs) and how this has impacted responsibility. There was also discussion about the differences between the MRSL from the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme and other compliance regulations like TSCA and REACH.
The core component of the presentations was the chemical technologies that Stahl has recently introduced to tanners in order to reduce the impact of leather manufacturing on the environment. These include Proviera, EasyWhite Tan and Stahl Neo solutions.
