Hermès to occupy space at new leather complex

Alain Rousset, president of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, was in attendance at the official launch of the Cité du Cuir project, which aims to showcase Saint-Junien’s leather heritage.
The complex, which is built on the site of a former lambskin tannery, will include a museum, temporary exhibition spaces, training workshops and studios for leather artisans. It is hoped this will encourage tourists to visit the area.
Luxury brand Hermès, which already has manufacturing operations in the area, will also occupy space at the site. Its new production facility, which is due to open in the coming months, is expected to create a further 70 jobs.
Preserving Nouvelle Aquitaine’s history of leather craftsmanship is a key priority for the regional government. It is providing €400,000 for the project, with a further €2.8 million coming from the EU-administered European Regional Development Fund.
