Céline fills CEO position

French luxury brand Céline has named Séverine Merle as its new CEO. She replaces Marco Gobbetti, who left in July 2016 to take up the same position at Burberry.

The Paris-based brand, founded in 1945, was acquired by the LVMH group in 1996. Ms Merle moves from luxury shoe brand Berluti, also owned by LVMH, where she has served as executive vice president since May 2014. She has also worked at two other LVMH Maisons, Kenzo and Louis Vuitton.

“We see this as a smooth transition building on the project and continuing the momentum of the brand,” said Pierre-Yves Roussel, chairman and CEO of LVMH’s fashion group. “Séverine represents a good fit with the culture of the brand.”
