Plans for Northampton leather centre submitted
16/11/2016
The university had worked closely with Northampton Borough Council on the application. It is hoped work will commence on the facility at the start of 2017.
The first phase of the project will see the creation of a new Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT), as well as a leather conservation centre. The ICLT will move from its current location at Park Campus to the Grade II listed Vulcan Works building, where it will benefit from bespoke laboratories designed for use by students taking leather technology courses at the university. There will also be teaching spaces, offices and workshops.
Once this is completed, the plan is to construct workspaces for small creative industries. These will serve around 100 businesses during its first ten years and will create up to 300 jobs.
