ICLT director delivers Wilson Memorial Lecture

The John Arthur Wilson Memorial Lecture, the main presentation at the Annual Convention of the American Leather Chemists’ Association (ALCA), was delivered this year by Rachel Garwood, director of the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies at the University of Northampton.

She chose leather education as her subject, focusing on “preserving the past and investing in the future”. She said education is of critical importance because large numbers of people working in the industry today will retire in the next few years. Demand for high-quality candidates to come into the industry to succeed them is increasing, she said, and this is putting heavy reliance on higher education.

The lecture took place on June 23 at ALCA’s 112th Annual Convention at Wheeling, West Virginia.
