Mr Williams will take over in December from David Pietsch, who has been in the role, which is based in Washington DC, for four years.
Richard Norton, MLA managing director, said that his experience in a variety of trade and market access roles make him ideal for the job at “a critical time” for Australian meat exports. He was previously served as agriculture counsellor at Australia’s embassies in Beijing and Washington.
“Mr Williams will play a key part with MLA in addressing a range of issues in the US market including the continued enhancement of Australia’s position, the future of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Brazil’s entry to the market and the development of a new Farm Bill in 2018,” Mr Norton said.
