East India Leather is a vegetable-tanned leather produced in India’s Tamil Nadu region. It is often used in leathergoods in Italy and France. The material was originally developed by the East India Company in 1856 for British soldiers. It receieved Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2008.
Hidesign founder and chairman, Dilip Kapur described East India Leather as “unique” and said that the products using it will be priced higher than the brand’s current lines.
Hidesign also announced the launch of Atelier Hidesign, a premium luxury collection made from ostrich and deer leather.
