Coach to emphasise leather as top-end bag sales grow

07/08/2015
US luxury brand Coach has said that it will design more styles using leather, after growth in sales in the $400-plus price bracket.

The more expensive bags made up 30% of sales in fiscal 2015 compared with 20% in 2014.

It will now concentrate on leather rather than logo (textile), a “shift that favours Coach long-term, given our heritage in leathergoods and elevates our impressions in the marketplace”, according to CEO Victor Luis.

The brand celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2016 and is aiming to “reinforce its positioning as the original American house of leather”.

It will introduce a craftsmanship bar in select stores globally, providing monogramming and bag treatment services.

However, sales and revenue continue to fall. Revenue declined 12% to $1 billion in its most recent quarter.
