Leather chemicals manufacturer Buckman has announced that it is merging its business in Europe, the Middle East and southern Africa into one leather division.

A well known figure in the global leather industry, Elton Hurlow, will take up the role of leather division manager for the newly combined region with immediate effect. Until now the global market development manager for leather at Buckman International, based at group headquarters in Memphis, Mr Buckman will move to Europe in September.

Mr Hurlow is a past-president of the International Union of Leather Chemists and Technologists Societies (IULTCS) and is the current president of its commission for liaison and communications. He is the driving force behind the Global Leather Co-ordinating Committee (GLCC), a body that brings together to discuss matters of common interest the global leather industry’s three representative bodies: the International Council of Hide, Skins and Leather Traders Associations (ICHSLTA), the International Council of Tanners (ICT) and IULTCS. He is also a member of the executive committee of multi-stakeholder body the Leather Working Group.

“Buckman remains committed to continuous improvement that will enable more efficient and effective service to our valued customers,” the company said on announcing this change in management. It added that contact with its customer service staff in Gent will continue as before but advised that its former manager for the leather business in Europe, Stefan Moll, is no longer working at Buckman.
