BASF puts up prices for formic acid

BASF is raising its prices for formic acid 85% by €40 or $45 per tonne in Europe, effective immediately or as existing contracts permit. Prices for formic acid 94% will be increased accordingly on a pro rata basis, the company has said.

Formic acid is an intermediate used in a broad range of applications. BASF’s customers use formic acid in multiple applications. In many tanneries around the world, formic acid is used to pickle hides and skins and in the fixation of dyes and fatliquors.

BASF is the world’s leading producer of formic acid, with sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Nanjing, China. Another formic acid plant at BASF’s site in Geismar, Louisiana, is currently under construction.
