Vietnam needs to attract tanning groups - Lefaso

08/12/2014
Officials from Lefaso, Vietnam’s leather and footwear association, have warned that the country will have to import 75% of its leather for its handbag and footwear-making needs in 2015.

The sector’s exports are increasing rapidly – the country is targeting $12 billion by the end of this year, 16% higher than last year.

However, its raw materials are lacking and Lefaso says new policies need to be implemented that attract overseas tanning groups and leather shoe companies.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade said there is an increasing demand for leather furniture, which would also boost leather-making companies.
