Tod's creative director creates a ‘new language with leather’

The creative director of Italian luxury brand Tod’s has explained that the group is treating leather more like a fabric in its new collections,  which include soft leather skirts and trousers.

Alessandra Facchinetti told the LA Times: “Most of my work centres around leather, which to our customer had just been related to the bags and shoes. We're trying to treat it more like fabric and create a sporty and sophisticated vision for the clothes.”

Ms Facchinetti worked for Gucci and Valentino before taking the role in February 2013. She explains she is working on “experimental things that combine artisanal touches and new technology”.

“I have always worked with leather, but it has been a more traditional approach. We're creating a new language with leather, with super light weights and different textures to wear during the day.”
