US beef prices to rise 10% this year

26/08/2014
The US Department of Agriculture has forecast the price of wholesale beef to rise by between 10% and 11% this year due to the drought and small herd numbers.

Overall, US food inflation is expected to be around 2.5% to 3.5%.

Record pork prices – 11% higher than last year by July - are partly due to the impact of a virus that has killed millions of piglets, as well as the higher cost of pork imports from Europe.
