China’s leather output falls by nearly a quarter
Official figures from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) show that the output of medium- and large-sized tanners in the country fell by 23.7% in 2013, compared to the year before.

The organisation’s president, Su Chaoying, said at a press conference at APLF 2014 that these tanners had produced 550 million square-metres of leather in 2013.

Mr Su explained that CLIA classes tanners with annual sales revenues of more than $30 million as medium or large. He said 650 such enteprises across China had contributed to the total.
