First Australian buffalos arrive in Vietnam

The first-ever shipment of buffalo from Australia’s Northern Territory has arrived in Vietnam, where a growing middle class and an appetite for high-quality meat is driving demand.

Buffalo exports could be worth up to $20 million this year with an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 expected to be shipped in 2014. Farmer are said to be “very happy” with the new deal, as the animals were worth very little to them, moneywise, last year, with many animals sold for pet food.
