Reports from Australia suggest farmers there sent almost 2.1 million head of goat to slaughter in the course of 2013, an increase of 12% compared to the year before.

There was a fall in demand for Australian goat meat in the US, although it is still the main export market for the product. In 2013, the US imported almost 15,500 tonnes, 4% down on the year before.

However, shipments to China increased 12 times in volume to reach 4,736 tonnes.
