New international role for Kathy Buckman Gibson
30/01/2014
Kathy Buckman Gibson first joined her family’s company in 1993 as legal vice-president and corporate secretary, following a spell as an analyst at Citicorp. She succeeded her father, Robert Buckman, as chairman in 2000. Stanley Buckman, who created the company in 1945, was her grandfather.
In her new role, her focus will be on growth, on customer relationships and on Buckman’s presence in international markets, the company said in a statement on announcing the change. In taking charge of international business, she will replace Edson Peredo, who recently retired after 40 years at Buckman.
Ms Buckman Gibson and her team will track industry trends and opportunities for Buckman customers, the statement continued. “Kathy Buckman Gibson is respected and recognised as a leader around the world in the industries in which Buckman participates,” it said, “and for her community leadership and dedication. Within Buckman, she leads the company’s global BuckmanCares initiative with community relations, volunteerism and giving activities that impact some 100,000 people each year.”
At the time of the annoncement, chief executive, Steven Buckman, commented: “This combination of Kathy in the international president and chief operating officer position, and Otto serving as board chairman creates a strong leadership, operation, strategic and experience combination that no other company in our industry can match. Buckman is a company poised and prepared to grow into the next era of specialty chemical leadership and corporate sustainability, and this team will strategically and operationally lead the way.”
